SPEAKING PAPER:

PET TIPS SPEAKING PAPER
Hello dear students;
We are going to have a look at some tips which hopefully will help you succeed in the Speaking Paper at your PET test.
The test lasts approximately 10-12 minutes per pair of candidates (it can be done in trios depending on the number of students and then the test is usually a little longer).
There are four parts in this paper:
PART
TEST TYPE
TEST ABILITY TO
Part 1
Interview
Answer questions about yourself.
Part 2
Role play
Use language to make and respond to
suggestions, discuss alternatives, make
 recommendations  and reach agreement.
Part 3
Long turn
Talk on your own about a photograph
for 1 minute.
Part 4
Discussion
Take part in a general conversation.
It is important that you remain and look calm! There will be two people in the room one is the interviewer and the other one (who will be sitting at the back of the room and will not talk to you, just listen and take some notes) is the examiner. Try to act naturally, as if you were having an ordinary chat with two friends (I know it is hard, but you should try). If you have any doubts about what you have to do or if you don´t understand a question, do not hesitate ask the examiner! (in English, of course!) You do not need to worry in case your partner is stronger or weaker than you as the examiners assess the candidates individually.
¢ Remember to pay attention to the examiner´s questions and to look attentively at the photos it can help you in case you do not understand the task very clearly. No matter how nervous you feel, you should try to make an effort and speak as much as you can. Try not to use short answers such as YES, NO, I DON´T KNOW try to elaborate your answers as much possible! (but do not dominate the conversation your partner should speak as well, if your partner does not, ask him to join the conversation, to interact with you!)
¢ Also, keep in mind the both examiners are there to help you do your best in the test!

There are some useful videos on Youtube which can help you understand how the test is:
